VVOB has been active in South Africa since 1997, and has remained committed to making a difference in the education sector.

Over the years, VVOB’s programmes have included promoting gender equality, improving basic literacy among children, addressing climate change, enhancing foundational mathematics skills, and fostering professional learning communities, among others.

VVOB aims to improve education in South Africa in close collaboration with national and provincial stakeholders by building the capacity of the education sector to provide quality education for all children. This collaborative approach ensures that VVOB’s efforts are well-targeted and effective in achieving their goal of improving education for all.

Induction of newly qualified teachers - Providing mentoring, peer support and training to teachers on inclusive education during their first year in the profession.

Continuous professional development of teachers - Providing quality opportunities for continuous professional development on both inclusive, gender responsive education and CCE, most notably through effective professional learning communities and by sharing best practices via Open Educational Resources.

School leadership development - Setting up and facilitating professional learning communities among school leaders.

Enabling environment - Key policy actors at local and national level have deepened knowledge about CCE and strengthened capacity to effectively integrate CCE in their policies and guidelines.

Our current programmes are Funda Udlale Nathi (F.U.N.) and Early Grade Reading Instruction (EGRI).

Funda Udladle Nathi (F.U.N.)

Funda Udlale Nathi, translated as “Learn and play with us” from isiZulu, aims to strengthen the ability of ECD practitioners at national and provincial level to understand and apply play-based pedagogies.

It is aimed at making learning fun and interactive for children. The project focuses on introducing playful teaching methods in schools, where educators incorporate games, activities, and creative approaches to engage students in their learning process.
